PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland voters will be deciding on a recreational marijuana tax this coming November.

The Portland City Council approved placing the measure on the ballot on Wednesday.

If voters approve the measure, there will be a three percent tax added to recreational pot. The tax money would then go to funding drug and alcohol treatment, and public safety.

Right now, the current state tax is 25 percent, but state lawmakers voted last year to set the new tax base at 17 percent beginning in 2017.

If the measure passes, the recreational pot taxes in Portland would become 20 percent.
