BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who slammed into a car at a Beaverton traffic light and then drove away, leaving behind a seriously injured man.

Emergency crews responded to Southwest Hall Boulevard and Cascade Avenue at 11:56 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said a Toyota Corolla exited Highway 217 and had a green light to turn left onto Hall Boulevard, when another vehicle with a red light drove into the intersection and hit the Toyota.

The suspect stopped, got out of his vehicle briefly, but then got back in and drove away. The driver was last seen going from Hall Boulevard to Greenway Boulevard.

The driver who was hit was trapped in his car and had to be rescued by firefighters. He was then taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to police.

The suspect vehicle is a gray SUV or van. Police said the driver was described as a black man.

The vehicle likely has front end damage on the driver's side, including a missing fog light or headlight. The vehicle was also smoking as it drove off.

Anyone with information about the suspect or this investigation is asked to contact the Beaverton Police Department at 503-629-0111 and reference case 16-1731480.
