Officers from the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division, in partnership with the Union Pacific Railroad Police Department added extra traffic patrols to specific railroad crossings in Southeast Portland Thursday.

According to Portland Police, officers focused in the area from Southeast Stark to Clinton Streets, Water to 12th Avenues.

The effort was due to complaints from the railroad about drivers and pedestrians not stopping for railroad crossing arms, as well as pedestrians crossing over and under slow-moving rail traffic.

From 5:15 to 7:45 p.m., officers issued 12 tickets to drivers, and one written warning to a pedestrian.
