PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A teenager had his eye pierced by a javelin Friday in an incident at a track event at Jesuit High School.

A spokesperson with Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue said a 17-year-old tripped during a USA Track and Field event and his eye was punctured on the end of the javelin.

USATF coaches were able to pull the javelin out of the teen’s eye before first responders arrived.

He was taken by helicopter to a hospital with unknown injuries, but firefighters said the boy was conscious.

A spokesperson for Jesuit told FOX 12 that the teen is not a student at the school.
