PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Brits living in Portland are reacting to news of the “Brexit” vote, including a member of the Portland Timbers.

Liam Ridgewell has played with the Timbers for two years now, but he is originally from England.

Ridgewell, 31, grew up in South London, and his parents and friends still live there.

The Timbers defender is somewhat shocked by the vote to leave the EU and said most of his friends and relatives never felt confident in how they would vote or what the repercussions might be.

Ridgewell added that he now thinks people are going to be holding their breath for a while, waiting to see how life in Great Britain changes.

“It’s a new thing that no one’s really done before, so it’s going to be interesting,” he said. “Hopefully, it works out for everyone for the best, and obviously I’ll be going home at the end of the season so it will be interesting.”

Ridgewell added that there is some sense of pride in knowing the UK will stand on its own now.
