WASHINGTON (KPTV) -

Shaquille O’Neal has had many careers, from basketball hall of famer to movie star to deputy lawman, but his next role is taking him to Cuba.

The U.S. State Department announced Friday that the 15-time NBA All Star will serve as a special Sports Envoy to Cuba for a four-day trip.

O’Neal will be joined by Dallas Mavericks Assistant Coach Kaleb Canales, and the two will hold basketball clinics for kids.

Canales started his career in the NBA with the Trail Blazers, eventually serving as the interim head coach in 2012.

A release from the State Department notes that the clinics will show how sports can allow youth to develop academic, leadership, and teamwork skills, adding that O’Neal’s careers on the court and in business will showcase the “importance of social inclusion and respect for diversity” sports can provide.

The State Department said Shaq will also visit historic and culturally significant sites in Havana during the trip.
