Police: Alcohol considered contributing factor in Hwy 18B crash

YAMHILL COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Four people were sent to the hospital after a head-on crash on Highway 18B just west of Sheridan Friday night according to Oregon State Police.

Preliminary information revealed that an eastbound 2001 Hyundai Elantra was passing a car in a no passing zone, when it hit a westbound 2001 Hyundai Accent .

The driver of the Accent, Phil Watkins, 61, of Willamina, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital by LifeFlight.

According to Oregon State Police, the driver of the Elantra, Timothy McCready, 43, of Sheridan, suffered serious injuries and was also taken to a local hospital. 

A passenger from each car was taken to a Salem hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is being considered as a contributing factor in the crash, according to Oregon State Police.
