Crews searching for missing 75-year-old hiker

LINN COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Crews are continuing their search for a missing hiker near Marion Lake Saturday, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies received the call at approximately 1:40 p.m. Friday that Sanford Rice, 75, from Blachly Oregon, was in the Marion Lakes area off of Highway 22.

The caller reported that Rice went for a day hike in the area, but did not return home.

Deputies were able to find Rice’s car, along with entry recipes that indicated he was doing a day hike.

After speaking with several hikers, deputies determined that he was last seen near Marion Lake.

The Sheriff’s Office sent a Hasty Team, and they searched all night.

On Saturday, six members from the Linn County Mounted Posse helped search the area. The Linn County SAR has 12 members searching the area on foot, along with an air search by the Oregon Civil Air Patrol.

The Sheriff's Office is now requesting assistance from other SAR groups from around the region to continue the search.

Rice is described as 5' 7" Tall, and weighs 160 pounds.
