Thousands of riders showed up to Mt. Scott Park in southeast Portland for the World Naked Bike Ride.

Organizers said the event is to make a statement on the vulnerability of cyclists while on the road with other vehicles. It is also meant as a lighthearted protest against dependence on fossil fuels.

New rider, Nichole Bull said it’s her first year riding in the event and something Portlanders should experience.

The protest is a six mile ride throughout the city and Portland Police Bureau said they had officers dedicated to the event to make sure people are safe.
