Crews respond to Jewel Road Fire in central Oregon

WASCO COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Crews responded to the Jewel Road Fire in central Oregon Saturday that burned 31 acres, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry.

The fire was reported at around 4:30 p.m. west of Durfer.

Crews said the fire burned on rolling hills through grass and brush beneath an overstory of pine an oak trees.   

A single-engine tanker on contract with the Washington Department of Natural Resources dropped fire retardant and three loads of water.

Crews also used a bulldozer and engines from the Oregon Department of Forestry, the U.S. Forest Service and the Rural Structural Protection District.

According to the Oregon Department of Forestry, the fire was contained by 11 p.m. Saturday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
