Construction on SR 502 ends, highway widened to four lanes

Posted: Updated:

After almost three years of construction on State Route 502, a new, wider and safer highway is now open to traffic.

Washington State Department of Transportation announced on Monday contractor crews removed the last of the orange construction barrels to let drivers on the newly built sections of the highway. The highway was expanded from two lanes to four lanes.

Construction on SR 502 between Interstate 5 and Battle Ground began almost three years ago.

The $84.4 million project is funded by the Nickel and TPA transportation packages.

WSDOT said more work is planned for the highway. Drivers should expect occasional delays while sidewalks and driveway connections, median barrier and landscape plantings are finished.

The remaining work will be finished by Fall 2016.
