BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

The city of Beaverton has awarded its first food cart pod competition grant.

The city pledged up to $25,000 in matching funds to assist a new food cart pod in central Beaverton's urban renewal district.

The grant was awarded to Dana Biggi of Gene Biggi Properties. Biggi plans to create a food cart pod on vacant land at the corner of Southwest Millikan Way and Rose Biggi Avenue.

Features of the plan include using existing open space as an amenity area. No timeline was announced for the project.

The city's matching grant will reimburse pre-development and construction costs.

The city adopted new regulations in 2015 to accommodate food cart pods.
