NEWBERG, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters responded to a home engulfed in flames early Thursday morning near Newberg.

Crews arrived at the 20000 block of Northeast North Valley Road at 2:30 a.m. A homeowner at the scene was moving vehicles away from the burning building.

People in the home were alerted to the fire when they heard loud popping sounds.

Crews from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and the Dundee Fire Department initially fought the fire from the outside due to the size of the fire. The area lacked hydrants, so water had to be shuttled to the scene.

It took around 30 minutes for firefighters to get control of the fire, according to TVF&R. Firefighters worked through the morning to salvage items and monitor hot spots.

Investigators determined the fire was accidentally started near a wood deck by improperly discarded cigarettes or an unattended recreational fire.

Six adults were displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting them with temporary housing and other needs.

There were no reports of any injuries in connection with the fire.
