CANBY, OR (KPTV) -

A former NBA player and Portland Trail Blazers broadcaster is now blazing a trail in Oregon's burgeoning recreational marijuana industry.

Antonio Harvey and his wife, Jennifer Speer-Harvey, own and operate Terra Mater Farms, which was one of the first eight Oregon businesses to get a license to grow recreational marijuana from the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.

“I felt like 23 years in the NBA was plenty of time. It was time for me to maybe do something different,” said Harvey.

Harvey and the Blazers parted ways earlier this month, in a sweeping shake-up that included the release of TV broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice.

Harvey said he wasn’t fired, but his position was eliminated. Radio play-by-play voice Brian Wheeler is scheduled to broadcast Blazers games solo next season.

Harvey was hired as a radio analyst prior to the 2005-2006 season and played 10 years in the NBA, including for the Blazers in 1999-2001.

Harvey said the team never questioned his new business interest, even while he was still a broadcaster.

“They wished me luck. They said, hey, as long as it’s legal, we don’t care what you do with your money,” he said.

Harvey now has a hand in the day-to-day operations of Terra Mater Farms, which sits on 138 acres in rural Clackamas County.

Harvey said he and his wife will be focused on growing their business, and growing high-quality cannabis.
