Cavalia creator promising '6-D' utopia with 'Odysseo' performance

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Odysseo is the newest show put on by Cavalia, a performance group that’s been in Portland just once before.

Normand Latourelle, the creator of the group, was one of the original co-founders of Cirque du Soleil, and along with some signature acrobatics, he’s now incorporating horses in this epic show.

Latourelle likes to call it a 6-D production because of the live animals and performers in the foreground and 3-D digital images projected in the background.

Several of the horses just arrived in Portland Thursday for some practice drills after spending time on vacation.

This is not just a circus with a few horses, though. Latourelle said they’re building a natural utopia inside the main tent to try to bring you into a piece of paradise.

“Even though there’s a lot of technology, at the end, it’s all about beauty. It’s all about peace. It’s all about the friendships between horses and humans,” he said. “If you’re not a horse person, you’ll be amazed by the quality of the acrobats, by the performance. And you’ll probably become a horse lover afterward.”

Odysseo opens on the South Waterfront next Thursday night, and there are plenty of tickets still available online.
