Residents evacuated as fire threatens homes east of The Dalles, 60 percent contained

COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, OR (KPTV) -

Residents have been evacuated as a fire burning east of The Dalles threatens homes, according to Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue.

Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue said the fire, named 15 Mile Fire, started at 5:35 p.m. and went from Interstate-84 uphill to 15 Mile Road.

Wasco County emergency manager Juston Huffman said there are level 3 evacuations east of The Dalles including Old Moody Road and 15 Mile Road. Level 3 means residents should leave immediately.

Eight to ten structures are threatened, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry.

According to Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue, Celilo Village has been evacuated. 30 people have left and 12 stayed in the area.

The American Red Cross will be opening a shelter for those who have been evacuated. The shelter will open at 11 p.m. and will be located at The Dalles Middle School, 1100 East 12th Street.

Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue said 2,800 acres have burned and the fire is 60 percent contained.

One lane of I-84 eastbound will be closed to traffic from The Dalles to Biggs.

Resources Hood River, the Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Indian Affairs and Klickitat County are helping battle the fire. A Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) is in use.
