Elderly man killed in crash on Historic Columbia River Highway identified

COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, OR (KPTV) -

Deputies have identified the man killed in a crash along Historic Columbia River highway Thursday as 93-year-old Shelby Warren Nicks.

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputies and Corbett Fire Department responded to the report of a crash at 4:45 p.m.

When deputies arrived to the area, they found two vehicles involved in the accident.

MCSO deputies said a gray Nissan Altima, driven by Michael Dean Taylor, 64, was turning left in front of an oncoming red Honda Prelude, driven by Nicks when the vehicles hit.

The Honda rolled over and Nicks was pinned in the vehicle, suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Life Flight was called to transport him to a local hospital, was pronounced dead at the Life Flight landing zone.

MCSO said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Taylor suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

He was arrested on charges of criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving.
