15 Mile Fire east of The Dalles grows to 3,600 acres, 80 percent contained

COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, OR (KPTV) -

The 15 Mile Fire burning east of The Dalles is now 80 percent contained, according to Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue.

The fire started at 5:35 p.m. Thursday along Interstate-84 and went uphill to 15 Mile Road.

Several residents in the area were evacuated when the fire started but are now allowed to return home.

As of 4:00 p.m. Friday, Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue said the fire had burned about 3,600 acres of pasture land and standing wheat. No homes have been lost. About eight to ten homes have been threatened.

Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue did say that one tractor and two disc machines were destroyed.

The fire burned eastward to Moody Road where fire crews were able to hold and stop its forward progress.

Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue said the fire is currently in patrol status along 15 Mile Road and I-84.

An investigator has been called in from the United States Forest Service to help determine the cause of the fire.

Drivers on I-84 East and Westbound between The Dalles and Biggs are being asked to use extreme caution.
