CLACKAMAS, OR (KPTV) -

Life jackets were given away at Barton Park on the Clackamas River during the “Big Float” event Saturday.

The life jackets came from the organization Meg’s Moments for Life Jackets.

Meg’s Moments for Life Jackets is a nonprofit organization created in honor of Meagan O’Meara Clark, who drowned while rafting on the Clackamas River in July 2013.

Meagan, who was 26 year old, was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

The organization hosts the life jacket giveaway in hopes of saving lives and preventing drowning on the Clackamas River.

The life jackets are purchased by personal donations, as well as the Clackamas Emergency Services Foundation.

Last year, the Clackamas Emergency Services foundation donated $2,000 to buy life jackets with the help of Fisherman’s Marine Supply and Cabela’s, and they surpassed their goal with more than 400 life jackets given away.

The Clackamas Fire District helped distribute the life jackets, and educated the public on water and boat safety.
