BENTON COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Two people were killed in a crash four miles south of Corvallis Saturday, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the crash happened on Highway 99W south of Greenberry Road just before 9 p.m.

According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Edward Giebisch, 71, was driving north on Highway 99W in a 1996 Chevy Blazer. For unknown reasons, the SUV left the right side of the road, crashed in a ditch and caught on fire.

Deputies said Edward Giebisch and his passenger, Patricia Giebisch, 68, were pulled from the burning car.

Off-duty officers from local law enforcement were among first to arrive at the scene according to deputies.

Deputies said both Edward and Patricia Giebisch were pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire was extinguished by area farmers, Corvallis Fire Department and the Monroe Fire Department.

Alcohol and speed do not seem to be factors in the crash according to deputies.

Deputies are continuing to investigate the crash.
