Cory Lumber, 48, was found dead in her Misty Firs apartment in southeast Portland early Saturday morning after she was shot.

Police said her boyfriend, Spencer Thomas Johnson, called 911 and turned himself in. He was arrested by police and faces a murder charge.

Surveillance video from a local convenience store showed Johnson outside the store on his cell phone crying, before going inside and buying tobacco.

Fox 12 spoke to a neighbor who said the complex was aware of domestic cases with Johnson and his previous girlfriend.

"We always heard there were things going on, but we just thought it was the typical fight between boyfriend and girlfriend – we never expected anything like this," said neighbor Cody Alexander. "Really, nobody saw this coming."

According to Alexander, Johnson would come by and want to play catch and hang out, which he found strange. He said his wife and other female neighbors were not comfortable being around Johnson.

"I could say there was something in the eyeballs," said Alexander. "I don't if she was allowed to come down here or what, but she wasn’t social with the complex."

In the days leading up to her death, Lumber’s boss at Paulsen’s Pharmacy in the Hollywood District said he noticed something was bothering her.

"She took off work early Friday and I could tell something was up," said Joe Amspoker. "We didn’t know anything about it, or to the fact that if we would’ve we should’ve been able to help her but we had no idea there was something going on."

According to Amspoker, Lumber was a ray of light at the pharmacy, and everyone who knew her loved her.

"She has two lovely kids that are going to miss her, and a community over there in the Hollywood District that’s going to miss her as well," he said.
