Officers responding to robbery arrest suspect around the corner from store

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Officers with the Portland Police Bureau’s Central Precinct responded to reports of an armed robbery just after 11:00 a.m. Monday.

When officers got to the Plaid Pantry store at 2110 Southeast Powell Boulevard that found Bilombele Alex Mwenbatu, 19, right around the corner from the building that matched the suspect’s description.

After officers took Mwenbatu into custody they discovered a replica firearm.

The police report that Mwenbatu stole gum, and displayed a firearm to an employee when that person began to call 911.

Robbery detectives are investigating the scene.

Mwenbatu was lodged into the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of robbery in the second degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday.
