Newberg-Dundee Police arrested a 38-year-old man after he led them on a chase Monday afternoon.

Officers responded to a welfare check at a home located in the 1800 block of Waterfront Street after they received a complaint about a man in the home experiencing delusional thoughts which included aliens that were going to kill him. It was also stated that the mans juvenile daughter was in the home as well.

When one of the officers arrived to the home he saw the subject of the welfare check, Ben Wozniak, driving away in a red Chevy SUV. That officer stayed at the home to check on the child. Another officer was two blocks away and spotted Wozniak.

Police said as Wozniak passed the second officer he was driving in the middle of the street and almost forced the officer off the road.

The officer followed Wozniak who was driving at a high rate of speed through neighborhoods near South College and 9th Street. Wozniak then drove north on Blaine Street until turning east onto 1st Street.

Police said the officer turned on his lights and siren but Wozniak refused to stop. Wozniak continued eastbound on Highway 99W. During the pursuit Wozniak was running other drivers off the road and driving into oncoming traffic. The officer stopped the pursuit because of the risk to the public and other motorists.

Sherwood Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff's Office were notified of the pursuit. One NDPD officer continued driving toward Sherwood without lights and siren.

Wozniak's vehicle was found driving off of Hwy 99W near Chapman Road. Officer's were able to capture Wozniak in that area.

Wozniak was arrested and taken to Yamhill County Jail. He is charged with reckless driving, felony eluding police officer, driving while suspended misdemeanor and reckless endangering.
