PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A woman is recovering after she says she was sexually assaulted and stabbed in downtown Portland.

Officers with the Portland Police Bureau report the woman was walking near the southwest intersection of 12th Avenue and Main Street when she said someone grabbed her from behind, dragging her into some nearby bushes.

According to the woman, the suspect then sexually assaulted her, cutting her and hitting her with a handgun. The woman said she was able to get away and ran several blocks before finding someone who called 911.

Officers and medical personnel arrived at the scene just before 4;00 a.m., and the woman was transported to the hospital.

The woman described the suspect as a black man, 5 feet 7 inches tall with a skinny build, wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts and black and white shoes with something on his head like a bandana.

Investigators with the PPB’s Sex Crimes unit are reviewing the case along with forensics teams.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call the non-emergency tip line at 503-823-3333.
