LINCOLN CITY, OR (KPTV) -

The 18-year-old son of former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber was seriously injured in a crash on Highway 101 near Lincoln City.

Emergency crews responded to the highway near Devils Lake Road at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Investigators said a 2008 Toyota Prius driven by Logan Kitzhaber, 18, of Portland, crossed the centerline and sideswiped a 1998 motorhome.

The motorhome rolled on its side and the Toyota came to a stop on the shoulder.

Logan Kitzhaber was trapped in the car and had to be rescued by crews at the scene. He was flown to Oregon Health & Science University with injuries initially described as life-threatening.

On Tuesday, police said Logan Kitzhaber had been released from the hospital.

Oregon State Police said the Toyota is registered to John Kitzhaber, 69, of Portland. The former governor released a statement Tuesday afternoon saying, "Logan has been treated and released from OHSU. He's doing well and recovering at home. Both Sharon and I appreciate the outpouring of support."

Sharon LaCroix, Logan Kitzhaber's mother, posted on Facebook that her son is "doing fine."

The driver of the motorhome, Stanley Lyckman, 67, of Port Angeles, Washington, was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the motorhome also sustained minor injuries.

Highway 101 was closed for one hour before one lane was reopened with intermittent closures for another hour.

Oregon State Police detectives are seeking witnesses who may have seen Logan Kitzhaber's Toyota Prius prior to the crash. Witnesses are asked to call 503-375-3555.
