High levels of lead found in drinking fountains at Multnomah Arts Center

Portland Parks and Recreation officials now say they are making changes after a review found there were several warnings about high lead levels in drinking water at one center in the past five years.

Officials said testing at the Multnomah Arts Center found numerous drinking fountains tested high for lead over the years, and four of those remained in use until now.

Portland Parks and Recreation Director Mike Abbaté said there is no type of federal, state or local regulation requiring water testing for parks facilities.

Now PP&R is making changes to stop this from happening again.

"If you have any concerns, get tested. And I think that can go a long way to alleviate concerns," said Abbaté.

Abbaté also said their priority now is to get all parks sites where preschools are located tested this summer.
