BATTLE GROUND, WA (KPTV) -

A driver was caught on camera spinning the tires of a pickup and damaging the bricks at the Battle Ground Veterans Memorial.

Now, police are hoping to catch the driver.

The damage happened at 11:45 p.m. June 27. Surveillance video showed a truck driving up to the memorial site at Kiwanis Park and turning into it.

The driver then spun the truck's tires, leaving marks on the brick pavers.

City leaders said it's not only vandalism, it also shows a lack of respect.

"I was extremely disappointed when I heard about it," said Jeff Swanson, Battle Ground city manager. "We're trying to figure out who did that, obviously, so we can bring them to justice."

The memorial was built entirely from donations and was just dedicated eight months ago. It features the names of 31 local veterans who died serving their country.

Crews have done their best to clean up the damage caused by the truck.

The truck is described as a white, extra-cab pickup.

Anyone with information about the truck or a possible suspect in this case is asked to contact Sgt. Jason Perdue at 360-342-5241 or jason.perdue@cityofbg.org. Anonymous tips can also be left at cityofbg.org/tips.
