Two suspects try to steal safe from SE Portland gas station, leave empty-handed

Posted: Updated:

Fox 12's Most Wanted tried to rip a steel safe out of a local gas station office but left empty-handed.

Employees at the Chevron Gas Station on Southeast 58th and Powell showed up to work Thursday morning to find a window broken out, and hooks and tow rope left behind.

Police said two men wearing dark clothing backed a large blue van up to the office, they broke the window and hooked up a tow line to a steel safe. They tried to pull it out of the office, but it didn't budge an inch. The two men quickly drove off, leaving a big mess behind.

Jeff Collins, a Chevron employee, said he has seen problems at the station before but nothing to this extent.

"It seems like a lot of work for nothing. Seems like somebody that would do that much, that they could put it to good use, legal use, or just get a regular job," said Collins.

Police said the suspects used a stolen van to commit the crime.

One suspect is a white man, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, medium to muscular build, and was wearing all dark clothing. The second suspect is unknown race and sex, and was wearing all dark clothing.

If you know anything about the suspects or the crime, please call Portland Police.
