PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland Police Chief Mike Marshman, along with Mayor Charlie Hales and other community leaders gathered to speak at City Hall Friday in wake of the shooting in Dallas, and the protests that emerged in Portland.

Those who spoke included Antoinette Edwards from the Office of Youth Violence Prevention, Bishop Steven Holt of the Kingdom Nation Church, Mr. Wajdi Said of the Muslim Educational Trust, Reverend Mark Knutson of Augustana Lutheran Church, Rabbi Michael Cahana of Congregation Beth Israel, and Pastor J.W. Matt Hennessee of the Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church.

“This issue that we’re dealing with is not black or white. It’s human,” said pastor J.W. Matt Hennessee.

Mayor Hales asked for state and federal politicians to push for “common sense gun control."

"I am really tired of seeing our flag at half mast... This is madness and it must stop," Hales added.

Hales ended the conference by asking people to “respect your neighbor, and tell them you love them."
