KEIZER, OR (KPTV) -

A grand jury ruled a Keizer police officer was justified in shooting a 7-Eleven robbery suspect.

Officer Esteban Perez responded to the store on the 5500 block of River Road North at around 8 p.m. June 26.

A 911 caller had reported a robbery involving a man armed with a knife.

Investigators said a confrontation ensued between Perez and the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Andy Lamar Gibson, outside the store.

Perez fired at Gibson, hitting him once.

Gibson was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was released Thursday and booked into the Marion County Jail.

The same grand jury that cleared Perez in the shooting Friday indicted Gibson on charges of attempted aggravated murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

Perez was not injured in the shooting.

No other details about the incident were released by the Marion County District Attorney's Office.

Perez, 26, has been employed by the Keizer Police Department since May 2015. Before that, he had worked for the Gervais Police Department since 2010.
