Blue Lives Matter rally held in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Community members gathered for a Blue Lives Matter rally and candlelight vigil in Vancouver Sunday.

The event was planned in the wake of the recent shooting during a Black Lives Matter Rally in Dallas, Texas, where five police officers were killed.

According to the Facebook event, the rally was to show how community members appreciate local law enforcement and to share condolences to the families of the victims of the Dallas shooting.

Those who attended the rally were able to band together, share stories and show support for current and retired police officers.

"We put them in this line of duty, we give them this job and then we criticize them in every aspect we can and never really show our support for them and that's why I wanted to do this today," said David Ellis, one of the rally organizers.

According to rally organizers, a local company made sculptures that they will be rallying off. Proceeds will then go to the fallen officers in Dallas.
