YACHATS, OR (KPTV) -

A semi crashed through a guardrail and ended up down a steep embankment off Highway 101, trapping the driver inside the truck.

Emergency crews responded to Milepost 169 south of Yachats at around 7 a.m. Monday.

Investigators said a northbound semi hauling chips crossed the centerline onto the southbound shoulder and crashed down an embankment before coming to a stop on its side against several trees.

Police said the driver was trapped in the cab and a rope rescue team responded to the scene to get him out.

The driver, 55-year-old Dean McConnell, was taken to the hospital. His condition was not released.

It is not know what caused the driver to cross the centerline.

Mast Towing responded to the scene to remove the truck.

Crews from Yachats, Seal Rock, Siletz and Toledo, along with Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation, assisted at the scene.
