Portland startup LandApart connects private landowners with people who want to get outdoors

Posted: Updated:

If you're looking for a great camping spot or just a place to connect with nature this summer, your options have just opened up.

The Portland-based company is called LandApart, and hundreds of people have already used it to find unique adventures and quick escapes, both near Portland and in sites that are a little more isolated.

The founders of the company said the idea started in late 2014 when they wanted to figure out how to get more people outside more often.

But here in the Northwest, they say it can be tough because campsites and RV parks on public lands can book up very quickly. So, they connect owners of private land with people who want to get out and enjoy that land.

The options include everything from a tree house near Sauvie Island to more than 100 acres in the Lake District of North Bonneville and hot air balloon rides in central Oregon.

The landowners make money, creating an economic channel for them to maintain and preserve their wild lands, and the people going get a great experience, without the crowd.

"Landowners can go and they can list their land available for camping anywhere in the U.S., Canada is coming up very soon, and people can literally go and book nature right now whenever they want to go," said Ven Gist, co-founder and CEO of LandApart.

The tech team for LandApart is based in Denver and recreation sites are already available in Oregon, Washington and Colorado, as well as Wyoming and New Mexico. British Columbia will be coming online soon.

You can search for spots based on location, features or amenities at LandApart.com
