Posted: Updated:

Four members of the Portland Thorns PC are heading to Rio as part of the U.S. Women’s National Team for the 2016 Olympics, with a fifth player being named as an alternate.

Midfielders Tobin Heath, Lindsey Horan, Allie Long and defender Meghan Klingenberg are on the active roster, while defender Emily Sonnett will travel with the team as an alternate.

This will be the first Olympic experience for Horan Long and Klingenberg. Heath was part of the gold-medal U.S. teams in 2008 and 2012.

The U.S. National Team will play a final send-off match against Costa Rica in Kansas City July 22 before heading to Rio.

The team is scheduled to face New Zealand, France and Colombia in group play at the Olympics starting August 3.
