CLARK COUNTY, WA (KPTV) -

Two brothers came across a loaded handgun in a field off Highway 99 in Hazel Dell on Tuesday while playing the mobile game Pokemon GO.

The brothers immediately called 911, and a deputy from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene to recover the weapon.

According to the sheriff’s office, the gun was a Smith and Wesson Model 16-4 .32 Magnum. Deputies noted it was likely discarded in the field some time ago due to the weathering and rust on the weapon, though they did say it looked capable of firing rounds.

Deputies said the gun’s serial number did not appear in any law enforcement database as being stolen.

The sheriff’s office thanked the brothers, with Deputy Brian Wade saying, “it might've led to a tragic incident if it weren't for the Pokemon searchers.”
