FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

A man convicted of arson who initially told FOX 12 he was a witness to the fire that destroyed a 100-year-old Forest Grove home has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison.

A jury found Henry Gulacy, 20, guilty of first-degree arson and first-degree burglary in May. He was arrested in September 2015.

Investigators said evidence led to Gulacy as the person who started a fire at a home on the 2100 block of Hawthorne Street early in the morning of Aug. 28, 2015.

Five people were inside the home at the time and one person had to jump from a window to escape. Multiple people were taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation.

A backdraft explosion sent flames throughout the house and the roof collapsed.

On the morning of the fire, Gulacy told a FOX 12 crew on camera that his mother was worried about the fire spreading to their nearby home. Gulacy described hearing windows breaking and people yelling.

The jury that convicted him also found him not guilty on attempted aggravated murder charges.

Gulacy was sentenced Friday to 13 1/2 years in prison and three years post-prison supervision.
