MONMOUTH, OR (KPTV) -

Police have identified the 29-year-old Salem man who was shot and killed by a Polk County deputy on Highway 22.

The incident began at 9:45 p.m. July 5. Police responded to reports of a man trespassing and harassing his ex-girlfriend and another man with a knife at an apartment complex in Monmouth.

The man had left by the time officers arrived, so his information was shared with other local law enforcement agencies.

Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies spotted the suspect driving on Highway 22 near Doaksferry Road. An Oregon State Police trooper also responded to the scene.

Investigators said a confrontation ensued with the suspect, leading the trooper to use "less lethal force options." A deputy fired his gun and shot the suspect.

The suspect was identified Tuesday as Joshua Bolster, 29, of Salem. Bolster was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The deputy was identified Tuesday as 28-year-old Casey Gibson. Deputy Gibson has three years of law enforcement experience.

Polk County District Attorney Aaron Felton announced Tuesday that the evidence accumulated in connection with the officer-involved shooting will be presented to a grand jury for review.
