HAZEL DELL, WA (KPTV) -

The Pokémon Go craze has led to another disturbing discovery. This time it was in Hazel Dell where deputies say the young men involved responded in exactly the right way.

Nathan and Manny Schmaltz were searching for Pokémon around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday along Northeast 15th Avenue.

"You'll look at the screen and you'll be like, 'OK, there's nothing around here, I have to go down to here,'" said Nathan.

The brothers split up, taking a short cut through a field.

Nathan stumbled upon a Pokémon, but Manny found something else.

"He was then saying, 'hey, I found it.' And I'm walking back and I look down and that looks like a handgun," said Manny.

Manny said he wasn't sure if it was real, so he gently picked it up with his sleeve wrapped around his hand, and then noticed it was loaded.

"There's live round in this handgun...set it back down," said Manny.

The brothers called deputies immediately and stood guard around the gun until they arrived.

Deputies said it was a loaded, .32 Magnum, lying just feet away from apartment buildings and children playing.

"That's why I don't want this getting into anybody else's hands," Manny said.

Deputies said Manny and Nathan did everything right.

Deputies said the gun was weathered and had probably been out there for a while, but it was still capable of firing rounds.
