MARION COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A building that had been abandoned for the past 20 years burned down in Marion County.

Firefighters responded to the 4800 block of Riverside Drive at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The owner of the property told firefighters the fire started in the garage and extended through a walkway tunnel into the basement of the abandoned home.

Due to limited access and the size of the fire when the initial crews arrived, the fire suppression efforts were conducted from outside the building.

A large column of smoke from the fire was visible for miles.

Riverside Drive was closed in the area for two hours.

The cause of the fire was determined to be an accident. Damage was estimated to be $25,000.

There were no reports of any injuries.
