PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

It is less than a week away from the launch of a new bike share program in Portland, but some people are upset about where the bike racks are being set up.

There are 100 bike stations around Portland all ready for the launch of the bike sharing program Biketown.

Biketown is a partnership between Nike and the Portland Bureau of Transportation. It's designed to let people rent a bike at one station then drop it off at another around town, and there are 1,000 bikes available.

Bike share stations have been set up, and some neighbors aren't happy, including Tab Waterman who lives off Southeast 39th and Taylor.

Waterman said the station in front of his house is taking up four parking spaces. He and his neighbors are upset because they all own bikes already and weren't told about the bike station.

The neighbors think this will bring tourists to their street who will then take what little space is left to park their cars and grab bikes.

"The thing that makes this matter worse is not only does it impact my property value, but the process in which the city went about doing business was anything but transparent. If you're going to alter the landscape of the neighborhood this drastically, there needs to be a vote."

Fox 12 asked PBOT about the bike stations. They said they have had numerous open houses in the planning process and contacted every neighborhood association and business association to let them know about the meetings.

They sent a statement saying in part:

"We take the concerns that have been expressed to PBOT about the station locations seriously, and after the launch we will keep in communication with neighbors near the stations and others who have expressed concern about station locations."

Biketown is set to launch next Tuesday.
