Two people were killed in a car crash on Highway 47 in Washington County Wednesday. Now police are on the lookout for possible witnesses to the deadly wreck.

“Oh, we’re a family. Everybody’s a family when you’re in a small community,” said David Brewer of Vernonia.

David Brewer grew up in Vernonia, and says scenes like Wednesday's deadly wreck are all too common.

“There’s too many people getting in a big hurry, and they need to slow down,” Brewer told Fox 12.

Just after 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, first responders arrived to the crash scene on Highway 47, just north of Highway 26, to find two pickup trucks fully engulfed in flames.

Investigators soon discovered the two trucks had crashed - likely head on - before one ended up down an embankment.

Police said the two drivers died at the scene.

There were no passengers, but officials believe it's possible someone saw the crash and took off before police arrived at the scene.

All afternoon crews from several local law enforcement agencies sifted through the wreckage looking for answers.

The wreck closed down a long stretch of Highway 47 for several hours, as drivers were directed to a nearby detour. The road has since reopened.

There’s still no word on what exactly caused the trucks to crash.

If you know anything about this deadly wreck, contact Oregon State Police at 503-397-3131.

Police are not releasing the victims’ names at this time.
