A man trapped a baby deer and tortured it for days until the fawn died, according to the Coos County Sheriff's Office.

Steven Tallhunter, 56, of Powers, is facing charges of aggravated animal abuse. He was also arrested Sunday in connection with other recent criminal investigations.

Following the Fourth of July weekend, deputies said they began receiving reports of incidents involving Tallhunter.

Deputies said he unlawfully trapped an injured fawn in early June. Investigators said he further injured the animal and tortured it over the span of four days, leading to the fawn's death.

On June 26, deputies said Tallhunter drove onto Powers Airport property during a "fly in" at the airport. Investigators said he caused significant damage to the airport runway and also nearly hit a person with his vehicle.

Investigators said Tallhunter was also involved in another trespassing incident at Powers County Park after having been previously banned from the park.

Along with the animal abuse charges, Tallhunter was booked into the Coos County Jail on charges of criminal mischief, criminal trespass and reckless driving.

Several investigations remain open in connection with Tallhunter. Anyone who witnessed incidents involving Tallhunter in the Powers area, specifically during the Memorial Day Weekend and the White Cedar Days celebration, is asked to call Deputy Dough Miller at 541-396-7830.
