PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Portland anesthesiologist is suing Kaiser Permanente claiming they let him go after he kept complaining that their policies put patients safety in jeopardy.

In the $9 million lawsuit, Doctor Erik Franck claims Kaiser told anesthesiologists to give patients less medication so they could wake up and be discharged as soon as possible.

Franck also claims he was given an unreasonably high number of patients at a time.

The suit said he was retaliated against for bringing up patient safety concerns, and last summer Kaiser told Franck told him they would not be renewing his contract.

Kaiser sent a statement to Fox 12 saying:

Kaiser Permanente is nationally recognized for meeting the highest standards for quality in surgical care. We are consistent in our approach to lawsuits filed by former employees. We prefer to respond through the appropriate legal process, rather than litigate in the media. The claim is meritless and we are confident the facts will readily reflect that.
