When firefighters arrived, they noticed smoke coming from the side of the building and attic.

Investigators said the fire was caused by a discarded cigarette left in bark dust.

Employees said at around 5:30 p.m. Friday evening, they put water on smoldering bark dust outside the building and assumed the fire was out according to Portland Fire and Rescue.

Portland Fire and Rescue  would like to remind people to properly extinguish your cigarette butts. If you do find a bark dust fire and are unsure of how to properly extinguish it, call 911.
