WILSONVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters rescued two hikers who fell down an embankment at Wilsonville Memorial Park Saturday, according to Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.

Crews responded to a report just before 1 p.m. that an 87-year-old man fell down a steep embankment while hiking along a trail and was unable to climb back up.

When crews arrived at the scene, they discovered the man was hiking with a woman who was also down on the riverbank and unable to climb up.

The man and woman had been hiking with their dog according to firefighters.

When the dog fell down a 20-foot embankment onto the riverbank, the man and women went after the dog to rescue it.

According to Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, the dog was able to return back to the trail on its own, leaving the man and woman stuck.

Firefighters rappelled approximately 20 feet to get both of the hikers and helped them back up to the trail.
