Tribute to the Troops rolls through SW Portland to honor fallen soldier

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of motorcycle riders rolled through southwest Portland to honor the family of a fallen soldier.

Specialist John Pelham was killed in Afghanistan in 2014. On Saturday, his family was honored by the Tribute to the Troops riders.

The group of veteran motorcycle riders also give the family a special plaque.

Two years after his son’s death, Pelham’s dad said they are still blessed by acts of support like this from the community.

“For us it is a part of the healing process a couple years out to be able to see how many people still honor and appreciate our soldiers, whether they are fallen, veterans or currently active duty,” Wendall Pelham said. “It’s just so reassuring to a parent or family who lost a loved one to war.”

The Tribute to the Troops started in Minnesota in 2004, and now has chapters in four states including Oregon.
