Money donated to high school dance team stolen, ends with happy ending

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

There are many booths around the Jazz Festival in St. Johns Saturday and one in particular was giving out free face painting and henna tattoos in exchange for donations to support its high school dance team.

Roosevelt High School parent Genevieve West said she was manning the booth alone when someone stole an envelope with $300 of donation money.

"What gives you the right to just take from these kids? They're children," West said.

She said there are about 30 students on the dance and cheer team and it is the first year they are combining the two programs. West added each student would need to pay about $900 to pay for their uniforms, pom-poms, and shoes among other things.

Before Fox 12 left the booth, the Jazz Festival committee approached West and offered her an envelope filled with the missing money.

Which the team and West said they couldn't be any happier.
