SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A bold and costly theft at a family-owned chainsaw business in Salem was caught on camera.

Surveillance video echoes the anger of the employees at the State Street Saw Shop after a man walked in, and walked out with two very expensive chainsaws. The store manager said he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"Is he really going to go out the door with those? And then, just instant rage, where I just wanted to catch him or see where he's going," said store manager Nick Phipps. He and other employees did try unsuccessfully to catch him.

A second angle captures the man escaping in a newer four-door silver car with no license plates. Phipps also provided a still image of the suspect.

He said his family-owned business is dependent on seasonal revenue, and the loss cuts deep.

"Especially during winter, it gets tough sometimes, because we slow down," said Phipps. "And every little bit of a hit really hurts."

Meanwhile, he says the careless nature of the crime hurts more than the financial loss.

"I just can't believe that people can be rotten like that," Phipps said.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office reviewed the video and asks that anyone who might recognize the suspect contact them.
