Douglas County residents are giving poor reviews to "Roseburg," a play that recently debuted in Philadelphia. The work by playwright Ginger Dayle relies heavily on last year's mass shooting at Umpqua Community College, and some are calling it exploitative.

Dayle tells the (Roseburg) News-Review she has received hundreds of angry messages, many from people who live in Roseburg area and have not read the script.

The plot intertwines the massacre in which nine people were killed with the 1968 presidential campaign of Robert F. Kennedy. He delivered an anti-gun speech in Roseburg during the Oregon primary and was fatally shot less than two weeks later in Los Angeles.

The newspaper reports that one local woman posted to Facebook that the play was "disrespectful" and another called it "unbelievably wrong."
