SILVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

A drunken driver crossed the centerline of Silverton Road Northeast and hit an oncoming car head-on, injuring a passenger and the other driver, according to deputies.

Emergency crews responded to the crash scene just west of Silverton at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said a Chrysler 300 was heading east on Silverton Road when the driver, 28-year-old Jonan Kovac of Salem, crossed into the westbound lanes and hit a Chevrolet Malibu.

The Chevrolet sustained heavy damage and the driver was trapped inside. Firefighters got the driver out and Janelle Gasper, 44, of Silverton, was taken to the hospital.

A passenger in Kovac's car, 31-year-old Torin Eliap of Salem, was also taken to the hospital. Deputies did not release a condition update for Gasper or Eliap.

Kovac was not injured, but he was arrested on charges of DUII and third-degree assault.

Deputies said Kovac's blood-alcohol level was determined to be nearly twice the legal limit.

Silverton Road Northeast was shut down for nearly three hours after the crash.
